Driver blamed crash on wildlife, but police charge him with impaired

Police in Kirkland Lake have charged one person with impaired driving following a single-vehicle collision June 4 in Arnold Township.

Ontario Provincial Police responded at 11:45 p.m., “where the driver reported the collision was due to avoiding wildlife on Highway 672,” police said in a news release Friday.

“Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.”

A 29-year-old from Tarzwell Township has been charged with impaired driving. His licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.

The accused was released from custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 3.
