Calls to support Canadian caregivers with refundable tax credit

Caregiving for an aging and ailing person can be a full-time job, which is why the Canadian Association for Retired Persons (CARP) is asking voters to make caregiving an election issue in October.

CARP has launched a campaign highlighting the need for support for caregivers called #credit4caregivers.

The organization is also calling on federal parties to commit to making the Canada caregiver tax credit a refundable one to ensure all caregivers are treated equally.

Officials with CARP say unpaid caregivers save the healthcare system over $25 billion a year.

CARP has produced a video featuring several Canadian caregivers, who share the challenges they face because they take care of their loved ones.
