Blind River has a new millionaire

A Blind River man has won $1,740,835, the jackpot in March’s 50-50 draw in support of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – the fourth largest in the draw’s history.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation (TBRHSF) drew the ticket on Friday morning and promptly called Jon Cada to tell him his long weekend plans might be changing.

A good investment and a good Friday

About 30 minutes later, after TBRHSF President and CEO Glenn Craig left multiple voicemails, he finally spoke with Cada.

Cada purchased a $50 ticket for the March draw.

“That $50 investment has turned out pretty well for you,” said Craig on the phone as he told Cada about his win of almost $1.75 million.

“No way, really,” said Cada.

“Oh my gosh, that’s incredible… That is amazing.”

Craig asked the winner if it was a ‘good Friday’ now.

“It is now,” said Cada.

“It’s a great Friday not a good Friday.”

He added that he supports the Thunder Bay 50-50 draw because both friends and family have been in and out of the hospital over the years.

Since its inception, the TBRHSF’s 50-50 draw has given away more than $37 million to winners all over Ontario.

Proceeds from the Thunder Bay 50-50 monthly draw go towards purchasing vital equipment and making upgrades at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

“Buying your ticket is also a life-changing moment for thousands of patients at the hospital,” said Craig, in a news release.

“This is because proceeds from every ticket purchased go directly to local healthcare equipment and services to ensure we have the high-quality, closer-to-home care we all deserve.”

Tickets for the April draw are available to purchase right now, with sales ending at 11:59 p.m. on April 25. The jackpot-winning ticket will be drawn on April 26 at 11 a.m.
