A man in his 30s is dead after a shooting at a park in downtown Montreal early Tuesday morning. Montreal police (SPVM) received several 911 calls at 12:45 a.m. about the sound of gunshots at Place de la Paix on the corner of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Place du Marché. “When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim on the ground in the park,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “He was unconscious. He was injured by gunshot wounds.” She adds that CPR was performed, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. “According to the first information, a suspect would have fired shots in the direction of the victim before fleeing the arrival of police,” said Chèvrefils. The victim’s identity remains unknown. There have been no arrests. A security perimeter has been established to allow investigators to canvass the scene. It is the 21st homicide on Montreal police territory this year.
