Teen girl killed on scooter in collision in the Laurentians, second teen in critical condition

A teenage girl was killed, and a young man was in a critical condition on Friday evening after their scooter collided with a delivery van in Saint-Hippolyte, in the Laurentians.

The accident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on Route 333, at the junction with Montagne Street, explained Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The van had been following the scooter northbound for several kilometres before the bike slowed down and began riding along the white line on the hard shoulder.

Thinking the scooter would give way, the van continued on its way, but the bike then reportedly swerved to the left and collided with the van.

The scooter rider was thrown from the vehicle, and the passenger ended up under the van’s wheels.

The girl was sadly pronounced dead at hospital, while the young man, also a minor, was in a critical condition late in the evening.

Accident reconstructionists and investigators attended the scene of the collision to analyze the situation.
