Stabbing forces partial shutdown of Montreal metro

Montreal police shut down part of the metro Sunday evening after a man was stabbed outside Lionel Groulx metro station.

A violent incident outside the Lionel Groulx metro Sunday evening forced a partial shutdown of part of the metro system.

A 35-year-old man was stabbed in the upper body at the corner of Lionel Groulx and Atwater Aves. just before 5 p.m.

The stabbing victim then went into the Lionel Groulx metro station and approached a police officer for help just before fainting.

The man, who was known to police, was transported to hospital and his life is not in danger.

Shuttle buses were called to transport passengers after police shut down the metro between Charlevoix and Lionel Groulx stations on the green line, and between place St. Henri and Lionel Groulx on the orange line to investigate the stabbing.

Service on the metro was reinstated around 9 p.m.
