Service restored on Montreal Metro after widespread outage

A communications failure halted all four STM metro lines, stranding thousands for nearly an hour.

The Montreal Metro is back on track after the entire network was interrupted for almost one hour during an outage on Tuesday morning.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) confirmed on social media that service was completely restored at 12:14 p.m.

Service was stopped on all four lines shortly after 11:30 a.m. due to a “communications equipment failure” between the trains and the control room.

The interruption was caused by ongoing work at the Berri-UQAM station, explained Renaud Martel-Théorêt, a spokesperson with the STM, in an email.
