Bluewater Health in Sarnia is set to get a second MRI machine. A grant from Ontario, as well as a community fundraising campaign, has made the second machine a possibility. “This is a significant investment in the future of healthcare in Sarnia-Lambton,” said Jane Mathews, vice-president of operations and chief nursing executive with Bluewater Health. “Expanding MRI capacity at Bluewater Health will help improve access to timely diagnostic imaging, strengthen local healthcare services, and support better experiences and outcomes for patients and families.” Ontario is putting forth $800,800, which will help support 2,080 more annual MRI operating hours. “Community support plays an essential role in bringing a second MRI machine to Bluewater Health,” said Kathy Alexander, executive director of the Bluewater Health Foundation. “The foundation is excited for the opportunity to work alongside donors across our community to help bring this second MRI to our hospital. This campaign will be about more than equipment – it’s about improving access to care, reducing wait times, and ensuring patients can receive the diagnostic imaging they need, close to home.” The second machine is set to be up and running in mid-to-late 2027, after renovations and installation.
