Quebec food recall: Chocofolie ‘Chocolat Dubaï’ pulled over Salmonella risk

Health authorities are recalling a Chocofolie brand product from the store shelves due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The recall affects “Chocolat Dubaï – chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache” in the 145-gram size (code 225076). The product has no UPC and was distributed in Quebec.

Officials warn the chocolate may be linked to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness.

Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) advise consumers not to eat, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled chocolate. Anyone with the product at home should throw it out or return it to the place of purchase.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. While most people recover, young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of serious complications, including severe arthritis.

Anyone who believes they became sick after eating the recalled chocolate is urged to contact their healthcare provider.
