TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up more than 400 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. markets also surged. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 453.72 points at 35,679.86, pushed higher by the basic materials and technology sectors. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 757.43 points at 53,935.84. The S&P 500 index was up 85.88 points at 7,686.38, while the Nasdaq composite jumped 405.90 points to 26,319.80. The Canadian dollar traded for 71.12 cents US, compared with 71.28 cents US on Friday. The September crude oil contract was down US$3.37 at US$76.97 per barrel.
