The Canadian army has been called to a Quebec campground after a grenade was found on site on Tuesday, provincial police say. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) told CTV News that it was called to the campsite near Lac Cristal, in Quebec’s Montérégie region, after the grenade was found near a building. Once officers arrived, they confirmed that it was indeed a grenade. The SQ could not confirm whether or not it was active, but didn’t want to take any chances so the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) were called. Meanwhile, the SQ has set up a perimeter around the building and no one is allowed to leave the site for the next few hours, spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel said. The CAF explosives team was deployed from the Valcartier support base to assess the situation. “Our specialists possess the training, expertise, and equipment required to support police services, help ensure public safety, and manage this type of incident in a safe and professional manner,” an army spokesperson said in an email.
