Quebec Premier François Legault met with Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney in Montreal on Sunday. Legault is the first premier that the prime minister has met since being sworn in, and the top item on the agenda was relations with the U.S. “In the upcoming negotiations with the United States, the federal government must defend key sectors of the Quebec economy, including supply management,” Legault wrote on X. The second issue Legault considers “vital” is to “significantly reduce the number of temporary immigrants to Quebec to protect the future of French.” Carney, for his part said the two governments are focused on protecting the Quebec economy and “building it for a stronger future.” “During a crisis, serious leadership means working together and focusing on the things we can control,” wrote Carney.
