Outage affects Communauto car-sharing service

Car-sharing service Communauto is expanding (CTV News)

The Communauto car-sharing service was affected on Friday by an outage that prevented certain operations on vehicles.

Communauto confirmed to Noovo Info that one of their suppliers’ servers was at fault.

“A technical problem that has just been detected may prevent you from accessing vehicles or completing a trip normally,” the service said. “Tests are currently underway to better understand the problem.”

The extent of the outage has not been specified.

The company, which operates in four Canadian provinces, including 11 cities in Quebec, has recommended that customers who have made advance reservations for vehicles at stations and are unable to start their trip using the Communauto app try the RFID key or equivalent (OPUS card in Montreal and Quebec City).

Those without an RFID key will have to check the app or website for updates. Communauto recommends waiting for an update before going to collect the vehicle.

Flex vehicles were most affected by the outage.

“You ay not be able to start a trip with Flex,” the service stated, again suggesting drivers wait for an update.

How to end a trip if you are having difficulty doing so normally

Vehicles that start with a key:

• Put all accessories back in the glove compartment.
• Use the door button to lock the doors.
• Your trip will end automatically after 3 minutes.

Vehicles equipped with a start button:

• Put all accessories back in the glove compartment.
• Close the doors and wait 3 minutes for the doors to lock.
