One year of construction begins on Côte Saint-Luc overpass above Decarie Expressway

Anyone who regularly experiences the struggle of exiting off the Décarie Expressway (A-15) at Côte-Saint-Luc Road may have to brace themselves for things to potentially get even more hectic come Tuesday.

Repair work on the Côte Saint-Luc Road overpass, which runs over the expressway, is set to continue until the end of 2026.

Drivers used to traffic backing up at the Côte Saint-Luc/Queen Marie/Côte-Sainte Catherine Exit (66) should prepare to start seeing those brake lights earlier and more often.

The work is expected to put pressure on Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce residents as the already congested artery is filled with cones, crews and construction near the Villa-Maria Metro station.

“We have a serious problem, not just with this intersection but crossing Decarie, so if there’s a problem here, all it will do is put pressure on the other intersections,” said traffic consultant Rick Leckner.

During the work, expect the following:

• Partial night-time closures on the Decarie Expressway (A-15) in both directions.
• Partial closures on Côte Saint-Luc Road in both directions.
• Occasional closures of the sidewalk on the overpass.

Quebec’s transport ministry (MTQ) notes there should be detours in place throughout the work, and that there will be no complete closures during the day.

Leckner said, however, that even one lane closure is consequential.

“So they need to ensure that these lanes stay open at all times, particularily during the day and during rush hours,” he said.

The construction is in addition to 19 other city projects that will directly affect drivers in the fall.

It also comes after Montreal’s auditor general said that Montreal’s roadwork is poorly planned.

“One would hope that there is a plan, but with what has happened over the years, it appears that there isn’t a global plan.”
