The City of Montreal will hold a public viewing in the Hall of Honour at City Hall to honour Oliver Jones, renowned Montreal jazz pianist, organist, composer and arranger. The public is invited to pay their final respects and offer condolences to his family and loved ones during the public viewing on Aug. 19 from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jones was named an Honorary Citizen of the City of Montreal in 2014. That same year, he was named a “Grand Montréalais” in the cultural category. In 2016, he was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Montreal. A public funeral service will take place the following day at 1 p.m. at Union United Church in Montreal. Jones, whose immense contribution to music and culture extended far beyond Quebec and Canada, died on July 22 at the age of 91.
