The Municipality of L’Ascension, in the Laurentians, has declared a local state of emergency after heavy rainfall over the past several days. In a social media post, the municipality of about 900 residents said the rain severely damaged several roads, leaving some completely washed out or impassable. Residents also shared photos showing significant washouts and landslides in the area. Officials are urging residents to limit travel to essential trips, avoid affected areas and follow all safety instructions. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, up to 75 millimetres of rain fell in the Upper Laurentians between Sunday and noon Monday.
