Sunningdale Road will be closed to east-west traffic between Villagewalk Boulevard and Uplands Drive beginning Tuesday as crews complete the final stages of the Sunningdale Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project. The closure, weather permitting, is expected to remain in place until about Aug. 18. During the closure, Richmond Street will remain open to north-south traffic, but motorists will not be able to turn onto Sunningdale Road from Richmond Street. Access to businesses in the nearby commercial plaza will be maintained through Villagewalk Boulevard. Pedestrian access will remain available on at least one side of the road throughout the work. Some London Transit Commission stops along Sunningdale Road and Richmond Street may also be affected. Transit riders are advised to check the LTC website for service updates. At the same time, drivers in north London will encounter lane reductions on Fanshawe Park Road East between North Centre Road and Adelaide Street North as part of the Fanshawe Park Road Rehabilitation project. City officials are encouraging motorists to follow posted detour routes and allow extra travel time because of the combined impacts of the Sunningdale closure and traffic restrictions on Fanshawe Park Road East. According to the city, the Sunningdale Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow at one of north London’s busiest intersections. The project includes widening Sunningdale Road from two lanes to four, adding dedicated turning lanes, replacing and upgrading watermain and storm sewer infrastructure, and constructing new sidewalks and cycling facilities. The work also includes a new pedestrian signal at Meadowlands Way to improve access for people walking and cycling.
