Former police officer must spend six more months in halfway house

The parole board has decided a former Montreal police officer must spend at least another six months in a halfway house before regaining his freedom.

Benoit Guay spent five years in prison for the rape of eight women. He was released in 2012 but ordered to live in a halfway house earlier this year after he failed to tell his parole officer that he had joined an online dating site and spent time in the company of a woman.

Guay has since enrolled in university.

The parole board says it still has concerns about Guay, so wants to keep him under close observation for another six months.
