2 dead, 4 injured after major crash on Highway 30 in Boucherville

Two people, a 34-year-old mother and her five-year-old son, have died after a major collision involving eight vehicles on Highway 30 on Montreal’s South Shore.

At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Quebec provincial police were called to the highway in Boucherville and found that a large truck had collided with several vehicles.

Elizabeth Marquis, a spokesperson with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), stated that it appeared the truck was unable to brake as traffic began to slow down.

SQ spokesperson Laurie Avoine confirmed to CTV News that the mother and son who died were pronounced dead in hospital.

She said four others also suffered minor injuries in the crash, but couldn’t confirm the extent of the injuries or if anyone’s life was in danger.

Photos of the collision show a large blue truck and at least two crushed cars on the side of the road.

The truck driver met with SQ officers before being released.

The highway was reopened at 9:30 p.m.
