Cyclist killed after collision with truck in Plateau-Mont-Royal

A 31-year-old cyclist is in hospital in critical condition after being struck by a truck Sunday morning in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

A cyclist has died after being struck by a truck Sunday morning in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

Montreal police (SPVM) said multiple 911 calls were made around 9:20 a.m. reporting a crash on Parc Avenue, north of Bernard Street West.

SPVM spokesperson Julien Lévesque said first responders found a 31-year-old woman with critical injuries to her upper body. She was taken to hospital, where she later died.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, is meeting with investigators.

A security perimeter was set up to analyze the scene and determine the cause of the collision.

Parc Avenue has since reopened in both directions between Van Horne and Bernard.

The investigation is ongoing.

On X, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said she was “deeply saddened” to learn of the cyclist’s death.

“I would like to offer my sincere condolences to her loved ones and family,” Plante wrote.

“This tragedy reminds us that we must go further to make our streets safer and continue implementing measures to protect cyclists and pedestrians.”
