A third-alarm fire forced tenants from a three-storey apartment building to evacuate Tuesday evening in the Montreal-North borough. The Montreal fire department (SIM) deployed about 80 firefighters to tackle the flames at a building on Arthur-Chevrier Street after receiving a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. According to the SIM, the fire started when a cigarette was left on a sofa in a ground-floor apartment. Flames spread along the floors and walls of the eight-unit building. The fire was extinguished by 8 p.m., and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross took charge of the tenants.
