What’s your season? Colour analysis is back

Personal colour analysis, a trend that peaked in the 1980s, is seeing a resurgence thanks to social media.

“Colour analysis is a personalized process we use to determine somebody’s best colours based on their unique features,” said Darcy Wilson, a colour analyst. “People find that when they’re wearing their best colours, they start to feel more comfortable in their own skin, as it enhances what is already beautiful about them.”

Wilson said conducting a colour analysis is an extensive process involving a variety of techniques.

“We often need to see someone in natural daylight without any makeup on,” Wilson said. “We look at undertones, temperature — whether warmer or cooler colours are more flattering — and the intensity, in terms of brighter or softer, muted colours.”

Once the analysis is complete, the individual is placed into one of four main seasons: winter, spring, summer or autumn, Wilson said.

Wilson identified CTV’s Lauren Stallone as a “true spring.”

“We discovered the warmer colours look a little better, and then we compared spring and autumn, the two warmer seasons,” Wilson said. “We found the lighter, brighter colours really brought her features to life.”
