A woman has died during Saturday’s significant flooding in Cape Breton. Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston confirmed the news Sunday. “Nova Scotians are mourning the loss of a woman who died during the flooding in our province,” he said in a statement. “My thoughts are with her loved ones and everyone who is grieving this tragic loss.” Richmond County District RCMP said a 46-year-old Cleveland, N.S., woman was reported missing Saturday around 8:45 a.m. RCMP said her vehicle was located parked near her residence on the far side of a flooded bridge. “At approximately 2:30 p.m., the body of a woman was recovered in the area,” police said in a news release Sunday. They said her death is not believed to be suspicious. Over the course of the weekend, parts of Cape Breton have received more than a month’s worth of rain totalling more than 200 mm in some areas. “I want to thank the first responders, emergency workers, volunteers and municipal teams who are working tirelessly to keep people safe and support communities affected by the flooding,” said Houston. “To everyone in Nova Scotia, please continue to take care of yourselves and each other and follow the advice of local authorities.
