Brief return to winter Tuesday as temperatures set to soar into double digits

Winter weather returned on Tuesday but double digit temperatures are soon on the way for London. CTV's Julie Atchison breaks it down.

If Tuesday morning’s blanketing of snow had you breaking out the winter coats again, rest assured that double digit temperatures are just around the corner.

“A return to winter like weather this morning with snowfall,” said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “We had a clipper system come through, bringing us a cold northwest wind. Blowing snow north of London was an issue early in the day, but things [are] quieting down.”

Atchison says flurries will continue to come off Lake Huron but will wind down in the afternoon. High pressure will continue to build leading to “lots of sunshine,” but it will be cold Tuesday, with a high of 0 C.

There will be clear skies overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, but temperatures will remain cold, with a low of –6 C, feeling like –10 with the wind chill.

“Lots of sunshine in the forecast for your Wednesday,” said Atchison. “Temperatures are set to return to where we should be for this time of year.”

Wednesday will boast plenty of sunshine and a high of 9 C. Things will be on the cold side in the morning however, feeling like –10 in the morning, so make sure to bundle up as you head out the door.  

The next weather system moves into the region on Thursday and Friday, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 20 C on Thursday, and a high of 10 C and periods of rain on Friday.

Temperatures Atchison says will stay in the double digits heading into the weekend, ranging from 13 C to 19 C, with sunshine, rain and cloud all in the forecast.

“So, improving from here, we’re out of the winter light conditions back into some spring weather as we head into your Wednesday,” Atchison said.

Tuesday night: Clear. Wind up to 15 km/h. Low minus 6. Wind chill minus 5 this evening and minus 10 overnight.

Wednesday: Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. Wind becoming south 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the morning. High 9. Wind chill minus 10 in the morning. UV index 6 or high.

Thursday: A mix of sun and cloud with 40 percent chance of showers. High 20.

Friday: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of rain. High 10.

Saturday: Sunny. High 13.

Sunday: Cloudy. High 18.

Monday: Cloudy with 40 percent chance of rain. High 19.
