Sword attack leads to charges: LPS

London police say they've charged one person after a Labour Day standoff involving a man with a sword.

A London man is facing charges after London police were called to a weapons complaint involving a sword.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon.

Police said the victim was moving out of a home in the Beaverbrook Avenue and Oakcrossing Road area. The suspect, who police said was the other renter in the house, approached the victim and an argument took place.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a sword, trying to hit the victim with it.

The victim ran out of the home and police said the suspect followed, trying to hit the victim with the sword. When outside, the suspect allegedly went into the victim’s vehicle, taking the keys from the ignition, and ran back inside, locking the victim out.

Officers arrived on scene and there was a ‘lengthy negotiation’ before the suspect was arrested. No injuries were reported.

A 27-year-old London man is now facing charges for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and theft under $5,000.
