‘She Wanted to Save Lives’: Hadley Denison’s family honours her wish to become organ donor

The condition of a St. Thomas teenager involved in a serious crash Friday has taken a deadly turn.

The parents of Hadley Denison, a grade 12 student at Parkside Collegiate, told CTV News Monday, doctors will be declaring her brain dead today.

Medical professionals are in the process of searching for recipients of Hadley’s organs.

Initially, Hadley had an MRI scheduled for today to check on severe brain swelling, but her status changed.

Her mother Heather, said her daughter now work towards saving other’s lives as a donor, something she said Hadley recently expressed her desire to do.

“Hads [Hadley] had lost her wallet two weeks ago. We had to take her to get a new license. When asked if she wanted to donate her organs, her response was ‘oh ya, I want to save lives.’ That was her, such a kind firecracker,” said her mother.

Hadley was injured when the sedan she was riding in collided with a grain truck just outside of St. Thomas Friday.

“She was a giver,” said Heather. “She volunteered at the Inn Out of the Cold [in St. Thomas,] she was president of the Port Stanley Leos Club [a youth branch of the Port Stanley Lions Club] and enjoyed volunteering in the community.”

The Denison’s told CTV News they want to thank everyone who has provided support during this difficult time and they plan to have an open celebration of life.
