A woman who was the victim of a stabbing attack in her south London home las week has died. As previously reported, the 73-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after she was assaulted and stabbed during a break-in at her home in the area of Wellington Road and Base Line Road east on the morning of Aug. 22. Police said the woman was sleeping at her residence when she was awakened by a loud noise at about 6:10 a.m. Investigators said she saw a man she didn’t know, entering the home and was assaulted and stabbed before she was able to call 911. The woman was initially taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, but has since died in hospital. The death has been deemed a homicide, according to police. In addition to the initial charges of aggravated assault, break and enter, assault a peace officer, and obstruct peace officer, Nelson Enrique Cornejo, 40, has also been charged with second degree murder. The allegations have not been proven in court.
