A dairy farm in Sicamous, B.C., says an overnight structural fire has killed 40 calves. D Dutchmen Dairy says in a social media post that the fire started around 1 a.m., and destroyed three structures. The post says the family is safe, but the fire was one of a farm family’s “worst nightmares.” It says firefighters from three departments did “an incredible job” stopping the fire from spreading. The farm says the animals were all six months old or younger, but they were “not just a number,” and all had names. The farm’s website says it opened in 1978 and it makes old-fashioned ice cream that it sells on-site, and the post says people should stay away from the farm while firefighters are still on scene.
