Pair arrested in Sarnia after allegedly stealing vehicle, credit cards

Sarnia police received reports of a stolen vehicle at a London Line church in the early morning hours Saturday.

According to police, a parishioner was attending an evening service, and left his jacket, car keys, and wallet in the lobby. When the service ended, he discovered his items had been stolen.

Descriptions of a man and woman who were not known to the church were given to police. Their investigation revealed a man and woman matching the descriptions used the victim’s credit cards at a London Line retailer around 10:45 p.m.

Officers were later able to recover the stolen vehicle at a variety store on Finch Drive, where the two suspects were placed under arrest.

A 36-year-old woman was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of possession of a stolen credit card, fraud under $5,000, and use of a stolen credit card.

A 34-year-old man was charged with possession of a stolen credit card, possession of property obtained by crime, and disobeying a court order.

The investigation is continuing with respect to other potential charges.
