Old grocery store being converted into new town hall for Wiarton

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is building its new headquarters in Wiarton.

The former Sobey’s grocery store in Wiarton will be converted into South Bruce Peninsula’s new Town Hall.

The $10.7 million tender was accepted last week for the project.

The current town hall is more than 50 years old and has accessibility issues.

The new town hall will all be on one level, with extra space to be used for community meetings and can be rented to provincial or federal agencies for government services.

It’s expected that construction will begin soon and be completed by early 2027.

The parking lot of South Bruce Peninsula’s new town hall will host this year’s Groundhog Day prediction ceremony on Feb. 2.
