New London clinic offers lifeline for youth with eating disorders

New eating disorder clinic called “The Harbour” opens to students and young adults in London. CTV’s Reta Ismail has the details.

A new clinic in London is offering support and hope to young people struggling with eating disorders.

Tucked away on Collip Circle, The Harbour was launched by the Eating Disorders Foundation of Canada with a mission to help students and young adults navigate the complex realities of disordered eating.

“It’s a multidisciplinary approach to set up a team for each person,” said Dr. Robbie Campbell, physician lead at The Harbour.

“Often, someone is placed in a program that doesn’t work for them because one size does not fit all.”

In addition to clinical care, the clinic offers mentorship and community support, much of it grounded in lived experience.

“It’s not just about the food,” said Noelle Martin, a registered dietitian with the clinic. “That’s the tip of the iceberg. Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that haven’t received enough attention.”

Martin said many people with disordered eating are unaware of the severity of their situation until it becomes extreme.

The clinic works in close collaboration with Western University and Fanshawe College, aiming to connect with students who may be struggling silently during the transition to post-secondary life.

“It’s designed for students,” Campbell said. “When you leave home at 14, 15, 16 and come to school, it’s a time when eating disorders often surface.”

Since opening in 2024, The Harbour has seen 40 patients and demand continues to grow. While partially funded through donations, organizers say more support is needed.

“We are in great need of donors to see the incredible purpose and need for this here in London,” said Campbell.

To support its work, the clinic is hosting a benefit concert Oct. 30 at London Music Hall.
