Ingersoll, Ont. teen identified as person killed in Oxford County snowmobile crash

The community is mourning a 14-year-old boy who was killed in a snowmobile crash. CTV London’s Gerry Dewan reports.

Condolences are pouring in for a teenage boy killed in a snowmobile crash in Oxford County.

Dominic Cross, 14, has been identified as the snowmobile operator involved in the crash on Road 92 in Zorra Township Saturday.

The student at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute “was deeply loved and will be remembered for his spirit, his kindness, and the impact he made on those around him,” according to an online fundraiser.

“His life was full of promise, and his absence is felt more than words can express.”

According to Oxford County OPP, emergency services responded to the area of Road 92 and 23rd Line in Zorra Township shortly after 10:30 a.m. following reports of reports of a serious two-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a snowmobile.

At the scene, CTV News witnessed a white pickup truck with severe front-end damage and a missing front tire and two snowmobiles, one of which was on its side.

The crash took place just metres away from where a snowmobile trail crosses Road 92.

Police have yet to say how the crash happened but did say there were no other injuries.

Cross was a minor hockey player for the Thamesford U15 team, which his father Trevor is listed as head coach.

Minor hockey associations have been expressing their grief.

“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss, and our players, families, coaches, and volunteers send our prayers, strength, and unwavering support to everyone affected,” wrote Dorchester Minor Hockey.

“Hockey is a community, and when one community hurts, we all do. “

Embro Minor Hockey also posted a statement.

“During times like this, words feel small. Please know that our entire association — players, families, coaches, and volunteers — stands with you, offering our deepest sympathy and support.

The hockey world is tightly knit, and moments like this remind us how deeply connected we all are. No one grieves alone.”

An online fundraising campaign has been started for the family and has already surpassed tens of thousands of dollars.

It states “funds raised will go toward funeral and memorial expenses, as well as any unforeseen costs the family is facing as they navigate this sudden loss. Every donation—no matter the size—helps ease the financial burden and allows the family to focus on grieving and honoring Dominic’s life.”
