Firearm, alcohol charges laid following traffic stop in Bruce County

A Bruce County man is facing multiple firearm and alcohol charges after discharging a firearm late Tuesday night.

According to a news release from Grey Bruce OPP, at approximately 11:56 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a report of suspected gunfire and a suspicious vehicle on Cape Chin South Road in Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Officers were able to locate a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop.

A firearm was located inside the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old man of Neyaashiinigmiing has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose - Criminal Code
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm - Criminal Code
• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available - Liquor Licence and Control Act

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Dec. 11.
