London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) leadership provided an update Wednesday afternoon, days after a code grey was put in place because of infrastructure issues. “This is not a result of a single failure or a recent decision,” said David Musyj, supervisor of LHSC. “It is a consequence of decades and, yes, decades of deferred infrastructure investment here at LHC, millions of dollars that should have been reinvested into infrastructure were diverted elsewhere, and in many cases, that diversion served individuals’ personal interests rather than the long-term safety and reliability of the hospital.” The provincially appointed supervisor blamed the code grey on years of systemic neglect. He said they’re now focused on strengthening controls and rebuilding oversight. “These issues are here now,” said Musyj. “We are addressing them, and we’ve had reviews done with respect to recommendations on how to try to get in front of this as best as we can.”
