Blyth Festival launches fundraiser to keep theatre ‘100 per cent Canadian’

The Blyth Festival is hoping to put a bow on a successful 2025 with its first ever year-end fundraising campaign.

The goal is to raise $50,000 by Dec. 31, to ‘help protect the future of Canadian storytelling.’

“The stories we tell tomorrow depend on what we do together today,” said Artistic Director Gil Garratt.

“What we’ve built here in Blyth isn’t just a summer season, it’s a living record of who we are as Canadians. Every time someone gives to this Festival, they’re helping protect our ability to tell our own stories in our own voices. And right now, those voices need all of us.”

Festival officials say, “amidst declining public investment and rising costs across the arts sector”, the theatre company needs more funds to keep telling Canadian stories.

Blyth is the only Canadian professional theatre company dedicated 100 per cent to commissioning, developing, and producing new Canadian work, said Garratt.

Blyth is wrapping up their 2025 season with “A Huron County Christmas Carol” which opened Friday and runs until Dec. 21.

Nearly 25,000 patrons saw Blyth Festival plays over the summer, a 20 per cent increase over last year.
