Romulan ale? Halifax brewery creates Star Trek 50th anniversary beer

Maritime brewery creates Star Trek Ale Garrison Brewing Co. has created a 50th anniversary Star Trek Ale. It's the only Brewery in Canada to be given the rights to do so by CBS.

A Halifax brewery is going where no beer has gone before, creating a Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ale in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary.

Everything from the taste to the bottle pays homage to Gene Roddenberry’s creation.

The golden ale is 5.0 per cent alcohol, to represent the anniversary year, and the labels feature 12 different Star Trek artworks, mostly of the USS Enterprise, said Brian Titus, president of Garrison Brewing.

“Enjoy the beer, keep the bottle, collect all 12 if you wish,” he said, “It’s just a really easy-drinking, tasty beer to celebrate such a milestone.”

Garrison Brewing is the only brewery in Canada to have a licence from CBS to produce the Star Trek ale, which was no easy feat.

Everything in relation to the brew had to be approved by the network, including beer samples that were shipped to the United States.

The new brew will also be available just in time for a science fiction convention taking place this weekend in Halifax. Organizers of Hal-Con say it’s an exciting time for Star Trek fans.

“The fact that they’re able to do Star Trek beer now is super, super cool,” Jennifer Lambe, executive director of Hal-Con, told CTV Atlantic. “It’s an extremely rare opportunity forwarded to them in partnership with Paramount, so we’re really excited to be a part of that.”

And this isn’t the first time Garrison has created a Star Trek beer. Its Vulcan Ale is also making a comeback for the upcoming sci-fi convention.

The anniversary ale will beam onto brewery shelves Thursday.
