Police investigate after group observed carrying suspected rifles in Bradford neighbourhood

Police say a concerned resident in Bradford West Gwillimbury made a call to officers Sunday night after seeing several people carrying what appeared to be rifles in the neighbourhood.

According to South Simcoe police, officers were called around 9:30 p.m. after a neighbour reported spotting four men holding suspected short-barreled rifles.

The group then got into a black sedan and left the neighbourhood.

Police say they were able to track down the vehicle along Carter Street near Miller Park Avenue.

Through their investigation, officers concluded that the suspected weapons were air rifles and not real firearms. Police say the men cooperated during the probe and were released.

Authorities highlight how important it is for residents to report anything that seems unusual or concerning.

“Police take such calls seriously and remind the public that any type of firearm or replica, including air rifles, can cause significant concern if displayed or handled in public,” states officials.
