Two caregivers have been charged in the death of a Northern Manitoba girl in 2024.

Two caregivers have been charged after Manitoba RCMP say a six-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital with a traumatic head injury, where she later died.

Mounties say the charges stem from an October 2024 incident.

Officers in The Pas, Man., received a report that a six-year-old girl was taken to hospital by a caregiver with serious injuries and bruises.

It was initially reported that she had fallen from her bed, police say.

She was airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg, Man., where Mounties say she died days later from a traumatic head injury.

RCMP’s major crime services launched an investigation, which they say found the child was injured during an assault that happened the day before she was taken to hospital.

Two of the girl’s caregivers were charged and arrested last week, police say.

A 39-year-old woman from The Pas is charged with manslaughter, failure to provide necessities of life and two counts of obstructing justice.

A 35-year-old man, also from The Pas, is charged with failure to provide the necessities of life.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
