Here’s what Canadians are searching for on Google, as the spooky season inches closer

Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters and Squid Game are all the rage in halloween costume searches.

Halloween is almost here and Canadians have officially begun to decorate their homes and prepare in advance for spooky season.

The latest Google Search trends gave insight into what Canadians were searching for this All Hallows’ Eve.

Several K-Pop Demon Hunters’ characters, including Rumi, Zoey, and Jinu, took the internet by storm after the release of the Netflix animated film and has consistently been in the top trending searches since June.

The top trending “costume wig” in Canada for the last month has been for Rumi’s character, leading to searches for “purple hair extensions” and “purple hair dye,” Google data showed.

Labubu costumes were not far behind. Searches in Canada for the collectible toys created by a Hong Kong artist picked up in April, according to Google Trends.

It was the second-highest-trending children’s costume in Canada, and sixth in a global “Halloween” search.

In addition, searches for characters from the musical film Wicked that was released in 2024 have also been skyrocketing over the course of last month, the search engine trends showed.

Google searches for “Glinda costume” were followed closely behind by searches for “Elphaba costume,” the two characters played by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Pop culture fandoms caught up fast, in the meantime.

Google searches for duo costume combinations like “Belly and Conrad” – the two characters from Amazon Prime’s ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, along with “Stitch and Angel” – the romantic pair in Lilo and Stitch from the children’s animated series by Walt Disney Feature Animation.

Meanwhile, trends show that Canadians are still not quite over the Squid Game Front Man.

Additionally, this year the topmost searched Halloween-themed food items included “black pizza,” “brain hemorrhage shots,” “ghost cupcakes” and “witch finger almond cookies,” according to Google Trends.
