Two officers assaulted, three parked vehicles damaged: Guelph Police

A Guelph man was charged after police said he assaulted two officers while resisting arrest.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, Guelph Police responded to a disturbance at a townhouse complex on Janefield Avenue after a caller reported yelling and smashing sounds outside.

Police said three parked vehicles were found with broken windows, including one with a golf club through its windshield.

The suspect came outside while officers were speaking with witnesses.

“When officers tried to arrest him, he punched one officer in the head and grabbed the other’s vest and hands in an effort to prevent the arrest,” police said in a news release.

The suspect was placed on the ground and handcuffed with the assistance of other officers who arrived on scene. Both of the original responding officers reported minor injuries.

The 35-year-old man was charged with three counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of assault to resist arrest.
