Three people have been charged and one person is in hospital with “life-altering injuries” following a shooting in Kirkland Lake the afternoon of May 2. Ontario Provincial Police responded around 2:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the area of Woods Street in Kirkland Lake. “One person was transported to the local hospital by the District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board Paramedics and has been flown out by Orgne to a trauma centre,” police said in a news release May 3. “The person is being treated in hospital for life-altering injuries but is in stable condition.” Probation violations With help from the Sûreté du Québec, three men have been charged with attempted murder and other offences in connection with the incident. A 32-year-old from Maple Grove, Que., has been charged with attempted murder using a firearm, robbery using a firearm, violating probation and other related offences. A 31-year-old from Salaberry-De-Valleyfield, Que., has been charged with the same offences. And a 41-year-old from Beloeil, Que., was charged with attempted murder using a firearm, robbery using a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent. All three accused remain in custody and were scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 3. Police said the investigation is ongoing with help from the Kirkland Lake crime unit, north east regional support team, north east emergency response team, OPP canine and OPP forensic identification services. “At this time, there are no concerns for public safety,” police said. “Any further updates will be provided when they are available.” Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Kirkland Lake OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
