Second suspect arrested after Guelph man dragged out of bed and sprayed with bear spray

The Guelph Police Service has arrested a second person as part of an investigation into a home invasion-style robbery.

Officers were called to a home near Watson Parkway North and Starwood Drive on Sunday around 2 a.m. The resident told police several people had barged into his apartment, dragged him out of bed, sprayed him with bear spray and taken his wallet and a diamond ring.

He said the intruders also claimed to have a gun, but it was never seen throughout the ordeal.

Footage from security cameras showed three men arriving at the building in a black sedan and walking inside with a woman who was already at the property. Minutes later, all four were seen speeding away in the same vehicle.

A few hours later, a 35-year-old Guelph woman was arrested and charged with break and enter, robbery, assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance.

On Tuesday, officers said a man was spotted riding a motorized scooter in the Delaware Avenue and Mohawk Drive area around 8:30 a.m. He was wanted for the incident on Sunday as well as a disturbance in September.

When the man was stopped, officers discovered the scooter has been stolen from outside a nearby business. Police also found four tightly-wrapped packages of cocaine and other controlled substances.

A 31-year-old Guelph man has been charged with two counts each of robbery and assault with a weapon, as well as break and enter, administering a noxious substance, mischief under $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing stolen property.
