Scarborough man arrested nearly two years after he was spotted with a stolen BMW in Guelph

Almost two years after an incident at a Guelph motel, the Guelph Police Service has arrested a suspect.

On Oct. 28, 2023, officers patrolling along Woodlawn Road West saw a man leave a motel room and approach a BMW SUV. Police said when the man noticed the officers, he went back into the motel room.

Officers took a closer look at the vehicle and determined it had been reported as stolen from Scarborough a day earlier and the licence plates has been stolen from another BMW at a grocery store in Guelph.

Police contained the motel room and tried to convince the people inside to come out for almost an hour. When a woman finally opened the door, officers discovered the suspect had fled through a bathroom window.

At the time, the 18-year-old woman was arrested for occupying a stolen vehicle.

A 23-year-old man from Scarborough was arrested on Wednesday, almost two years after the incident, and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and two counts of breaching a release order.
