Man wanted for three previous impaired driving charges arrested again

A Guelph man is facing a fourth impaired driving charge, and will need to explain to his mother why her vehicle was seized.

The Guelph Police Service was called to a two-vehicle collision at Willow Road and Edinburgh Road North just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers discovered one of the drivers involved in the crash was already wanted on several outstanding charges, including impaired driving and dangerous driving. Police said he also failed to show up at court on three previous impaired driving charges.

During the arrest, officers said they could smell alcohol on the man’s breath. He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to a police station, where additional testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Officers said the man was also driving his mother’s vehicle without her permission. That vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The 45-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, taking a vehicle without consent, failing to attend court and several other Highway Traffic Act violations.
