Hammer-wielding suspects rob jewelry store in Stone Road Mall

CTV’s Krista Simpson has the latest on a robbery in Guelph where four male suspects used hammers to break into display cases.

The Guelph Police Service wants to speak with anyone who was at Stone Road Mall on Tuesday afternoon and witnessed an armed robbery.

It happened at an unnamed jewelry store just before 4 p.m.

Police said they are looking to identify five suspects.

“One waited in the car while four armed with hammers smashed display cases in the store,” read a media release. “They left with an undisclosed quantity of jewelry and were last seen travelling southbound on Edinburgh Road South.”

Police also shared the following descriptions:

• Suspect #1: Male, Black, slim build, tall, wearing a black hooded sweater, black pants, black boots, wearing a light-coloured medical mask, light-coloured gloves, carrying a red grocery bag.
• Suspect #2: Male, Black, medium build, tall, wearing a black long-sleeved top, black pants, white sneakers, black ski mask, lime green gloves, carrying a small rubber sledge-style hammer.
• Suspect #3: Male, Black, slim build, average height, wearing a black hooded puffer jacket, black pants, black sneakers with grey accents (possibly Nikes), light-coloured gloves, carrying a construction style hammer with a green grocery bag.
• Suspect #4: Male, unknown race, medium build, tall, wearing a black hooded sweater, black Nike trackpants, black sneakers, black ski mask, yellow and black garden style gloves, carrying a red Metro grocery bag.
• Suspect #5: No physical description; remained in vehicle.

The vehicle they left the mall in was a white four-door Honda Civic. Police said it was possibly a 2018 model with five-spoke rims, a sunroof, was low to the ground and had black and white side mirrors. The license plate, DFEX781, was not registered to that vehicle.

Police said no one was injured during the robbery.
