Guelph Police are investigating yet another bank investigator scam. This time the victim was an 86-year-old woman. She contacted police on Friday to say she had received a call from someone who claimed to be from her bank. The caller told the woman her card had been fraudulently used in Alberta and a “representative” would be sent to her home to pick up both her debit and credit cards so they could be destroyed. “Approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, a man attended the complainant’s address and was given an envelope with the cards inside,” a media release said. “They were subsequently used to make a number of purchases and withdrawals.” The victim lost a total of $5,900. Police said the man was described as 5’5” tall and 150 pounds, with brown skin and wearing a black toque. Anyone who has fallen for a similar scheme is encouraged to contact their local police department and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by phone at 1-888-495-8501.
