A Mississauga man has been charged with impaired driving after crashing his e-bike in Guelph. An officer with the Guelph Police Service saw the man lying on the sidewalk, near Gordon Street and Nottingham Street, around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. He was being helped by a passerby. Police said the man lost control of the e-bike and tipped over, with the e-bike falling on top of him. “While speaking to the man the officer detected an odour of alcohol on his breath and noted signs of impairment,” they wrote in a media release. “After failing a roadside breath test, he was arrested and later provided further breath samples which showed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.” Police charged the 40-year-old with impaired driving. “E-bikes are considered motor vehicles under the Criminal Code of Canada and operators are subject to the same impaired driving laws as the operators of any other motor vehicle,” they said. The man’s licence was also suspended for 90 days.
