Traffic stop leads to Mapleton man arrested for suspected meth

A driver was arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected drugs.

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police pulled the man’s car over on Tuesday, around 10:00 a.m., on Wellington Road 7 in Mapleton Township after they noticed the vehicle operating with an insecure load.

Police then observed an open container of liquor in the vehicle.

This prompted a search, leading to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.

Adam Ruttan, a 50-year-old Mapleton man, was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Driving while under suspension
• Owner operate motor vehicle without insurance
• Operate unsafe vehicle
• Insecure load
• Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
• Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
• Driver failure to properly wear seatbelt
• Use a defaced plate
