Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an altercation in downtown Brantford. According to the Brantford Police Service, officers responded to a disturbance around 2:45 a.m. Thursday near King St. and Dalhousie St. Police said officers tried to speak with one of the men involved and there was an “interaction.” The man was then taken to a hospital with serious injuries. No further details were shared about the “interaction.” Brantford Police said they notified the SIU, which invoked their mandate. As such, Brantford Police are not able to provide further information. The SIU investigates incidents involving police where there has been serious injury, death, discharge of a firearm or allegations of sexual assault.
