Shelter-in-place lifted in Oshweken following armed suspect incident

Police say a shelter-in-place advisory for part of the Six Nations of the Grand River community has been lifted. CTV's Hannah Schmidt reports.

The Ontario Provincial Police say a shelter-in-place advisory for part of the Six Nations of the Grand River community has been lifted.

The order was issued shortly before 7:15 a.m. Saturday in the area of Onondaga Road and Sixth Line after police received reports of an incident involving an armed suspect.

The OPP said there is no longer a threat to public safety, though a heavy police presence remains in the community as the Six Nations Police Service continues its investigation.

As part of the initial response, residents in the affected area were told to seek shelter if outdoors, lock doors and windows, avoid engaging with suspicious individuals, close curtains and follow officers’ directions.

Police thanked residents for their cooperation and acknowledged the emotional impact the advisory may have had.
